Major (B) Dato' Tengku Abd. Jalil Mohd. Noor
Examining the history of military forces in our country, the Johor State Volunteer Forces (ATSNJ) can be considered as one of the oldest military units in the nation. Its role and contributions are significant. One by one, ATSNJ has produced military leaders who have demonstrated their capabilities and abilities in contributing services not only to the state of Johor but also to the nation as a whole.
Among the military leaders from ATSNJ who is now 100 years old is the Honorable Major (B) Dato’ Tengku Abd. Jalil Bin Mohd. Noor. He was born in Batu Pahat on January 21, 1921, and received education in Malay, Religious, and English schools in Batu Pahat.
In 1940, he joined ATSNJ as a Cadet Officer and was later sent to the Military Academy in Dehra Dun, India. During World War II, he returned to his homeland and continued his service with ATSNJ, serving in several strategically important areas such as airports in Kahang, Kluang, Segamat, and Jamaluang. He also participated in constructing defenses on Tioman Island located in the South China Sea.
After the war, Major Tengku Abd. Jalil resumed his service with ATSNJ actively, continuing until he climbed the ladder of success, eventually holding the position of Commanding Officer. In 1981, he retired from ATSNJ.
