The function and duties of the Johor Military Force during its establishment and until the end of World War II were to safeguard the sovereignty and security of the state of Johor. After the end of World War II, the strength of this force was reduced, and it functioned as the Johor State Ceremonial Forces.

At the time, the main task is to ensure the security of the residences of His Majesty the Sultan of Johor and the closest Royal Family members. A total of 13 control points are guarded, including at the palaces and entrances to the palaces. The force also provides security during ceremonies at the palace and at the entrances, such as the changing of the guard ceremony, providing an escort for those entitled to receive it, and all ceremonies that a palace guard must perform.
