Appointment and Proclamation of A Sovereign<\/h3><\/div>

The appointment and proclamation of the Sultan of Johor is based on the provisions of the Constitution of Johor 1895. On the demise of the Ruler, the Council of the Supporters of the Country is summoned for a deliberation to confirm and install the Heir Apparent (Crown Prince) as Sultan and successor. The meeting is held at the Throne Room of the Grand Palace prior to the Lying-in-State of the late Ruler.<\/span><\/p>\n

The President of the Council conveys the decision to the Heir Apparent, who then takes the Oath of Office at the Throne Room, witnessed by the Council and the Royal Family. The Mufti recites a supplication.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just prior to the royal burial the Chief Minister proclaims the Sultan at the top of the Main Staircase of the Grand Palace, to the shouts of Daulat Tuanku (Hail the Sultan) three times.<\/span><\/p>\n

The JMF Honour Guard gives the royal salute and the JMF Band strikes the State Anthem (Lagu Bangsa Johor). The Mufti recites a supplication. The Royal Standard is hoisted to full mast, and then lowered to half-mast as a sign of mourning to the late ruler.<\/span><\/p>\n

(At the Proclamation of HRH Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar on 23 February 2010, the Special Forces of which the late Sultan Iskandar was the Honorary Colonel performed the royal salute.)<\/span><\/p>\n
